Started when I was 14...33 years later I really want to quit so I talked to my doctor and got some Chantix.  Huge coffee lover and it tastes really weird.  As a matter of fact everything tastes off.  The urge to smoke is there but curbed with Chantix.

The dreams are not there strangely...But wake up in cold sweats...maybe I am dreaming, I just don't remember.

I've been able to stop for about 6 months substituting with Cigars but got really expensive...5 or 6 a day amounted to almost a $1,000 a month.

Chantix is my last ditch effort in staying healthy enough to see my kids reach adulthood.

God, I hope this works.

Hi AcheyBreaky!

Sorry I chuckled at the "substitution" of cigarettes with cigars.... :-D... and I thought Champix was expensive! ;-)

So far Champix is working for me. I also quit at day 8 because with the pills every puff made me just ill and couldn´t really face the idea of smoking one more of those yucky things. Now we just need to remember how ill it made us every time we think about it.

If you go to the main discussion board and introduce yourself you´ll be welcomed by everybody, and that main forum is busier than these subforums.

Welcome! Keep it up! :-)

You are not smoking your cigarettes. Your cigarettes are smoking you.

Hi there Achey!  So happy to see you here!  Like you, I smoked for almost 35 years and I love coffee too.  I took Chantix, but it made me so nauseous that I quit taking it on day 11.  I quit smoking on day 7 and never looked back.  The Chantix definitely helped me, but I firmly believe it comes down to making the decision to stop smoking and not letting anything get in the way.  We get to choose whether or not we smoke.  The cigarette can't light itself and shoot poison into our lungs.  Only we can do that.  The first days/weeks are hard, no doubt, but not as hard as staying addicted to nicotine and killing yourself slowly and expensively.  Think about your kids.  Think about your life.  Choose not to smoke!  We're all here for you!

Hi ABL....love your name......yea, cigars are not any safer than cigarettes.....They also contain nicotine and cancer causing ingredients....
Chantix did its job perfect for assisting in my quit....it masked the receptors, drastically reduced the "need a smoke" feeling and taste, and lessened my desire to smoke to the point I was able to quit....It also masked my craves and when I quit the Chantix, tons of Tic Tacks helped minimizing the craves till they were managable for me.......Cinnamon stick also help....

I was a 37 year smoker that had given up on quitting my last 25 years or so.....and now I have been quit for a little over 2 years......
I have saved enough money to retire early.....Quitting is great and so happy for you.....

You may want to go to the main quit smoking form to post your intro as you will get more responses there.........Bassman

HI AcheyBreaky..and congratulation..Don't pick it up..

I keep telling myself each morning..I don't have to smoke today

thank you Lord! I smoked for 50 years..and it has done mass damage

to my lungs that could have been prevented if I had quit earlier in

life..so great for you! the chantix did it for me! I don't have to fight the craves

like when I quit on my own..I eat toast, or oatmeal and drink a full glass of water

and that took care of the nausea..If I take it without eating it makes me so ill..

wondering now when too stop the Chantex and how hard that will be..I smoked my last one on

april 2 of this year..so just a little over 5 weeks for me..but it is still a miracle we are

living to be able to not smoke after we smoked so long!!

Thank you all for the words of wisdom and support.

I strangely find myself taking a cookie...taking a bite...knocking off the crumbs and holding the cookie in my mouth...

Anyone know what I can take for a cookie addiction?  hahaha

I know I won't fail because I actually want to quit.  The Forums and everyone in it helps immensely.  Knowing I don't have to go trough it alone is so very encouraging.

Thank you again.

If you really WANT  to quit, you´ve quit already.

The rest is just getting used to being a non-smoker.

Don´t take anything with nicotine as if it was a cookie. Cookie addiction won´t kill you and isn´t antisocial and won´t make you stink. If you have to swap an addiction for another, cookie addiction does seem like a good option (y)
