Good Grief, Gum costs almost as much as smoking

Good Grief, Gum costs almost as much as smoking

Postby laterbloomer » Mon Apr 27, 2009 12:29 pm

I picked up some gum today and it was $5 for 44 pieces. Since I chew 2 at a time this is really just 22 pieces for all intents and purposes and since they don't really last more than half an hour to 45 minutes...this can add up. What are you guys doing?

I'm just spent/spending the money right now to help with the transition. The way I look at it gum, candy, whatever are just temporary 'necessities' ... and in time, when we're ready or atleast more comfortable we can give them up. a lot easier than our addiction to nicotine. Eventually you'll (probably) save money, but this is really about health more than money anyway. :)

Well, at least the gum is better for us. I also chew sugarless gum and my favorite is tootsie roll pops. Whenever I get a crave, which thank God, isn't as often as it was in the beginning, I just grab a tootsie roll pop. I tried the straw that a lot of other people suggested, but just didn't work for me.

Geez, mine is $1.99 for 45 pieces. That's a sleeve of three 15-piece-packs bought from the candy aisle at my supermarket; Wrigley's Doublemint. But New Hampshire has no sales tax.
Ultimately, gum is cheaper that tobacco in both money and health. Don't be tempted to go back! Never take another puff! Vic

Oh I'm not going to smoke. I just got caught by surprise I'll have to start looking at the bulk buying of gum I guess. The straw thing does not work for me either and I am a coffee drinker so I like the breath freshening as well. I am hypersensitive about my breath and general aroma since I quit. I smeled so bad for so long I want to be the best smelling person around now. :D

If the straws don't help, some people swear by cinnamon sticks. Good luck! ~ Cissy
