I know this isn't the most pleasant topic, but I've heard it's very common to have terrible gas once you quit smoking. It's totally out of control! I have yoga class twice a week and I'm almost thinking I can't go because of fear of embaressment... it's quiet, I'm relaxed... you get the picture.

Does anyone know how long this symptom will last?? Does GasX even work?? OMG... please help. This is so embaressing.

LOL. I know what you mean!!! Mine was really bad the first few days. It's been a little better over the past couple, although there are still some issues here and there!

You might want to avoid yoga though! Don't want any slippery ones to "fall" out!

The GI tract is strongly affected by nicotine and the gasses in cigarette smoke - that's why a smoke with the first cup of coffee got the day off to a good start. Many people, myself included, get constipated when quitting (Raisin Bran was a must have) and even after 6 months, I haven't developed a "regular" schedule. What's the answer? I don't know, but it sure isn't to have a cigarette! Have a great smoke-free day! ~ Cissy

It lasted a couple of months for mama and I. She has been using Activia and loves it. I tried Gas X and it doesn't work for the smoking gas.

That really happens? I've been running around changing my diet for the past week. I didn't even think that the gas could be a side effect of stopping smoking.

Kellyjo you're cracking me up here. I didn't have the gas problem when I quit, so I'm sorry I can't help you with that. I'm sure your body will adjust in time though. Till then, just buy some clothepins for your nose :D

:P I'm glad somebody can appreciate my ornery sense of humor!!!!

No clothes pins for me though, just a bottle of body spray from Bath and Body works to disguise my little "blessings" at work!

Kelly that is hilarious! I haven't been too too affected by gas, but hubby...GOOD LORD! he must be eating something right though because at least they're odorless, but it's disruptive! especially in the early morning hours when he wakes me up out of a deep sleep due to them! i get so annoyed, nudge him and tell him "would you please go to the bathroom!?!?!" lol i get so mad!

LMAO. I get mad when Derek farts too. For some reason it grosses me out when anyone in my house farts, except me. I seem to think it's funny when I do it!!!!!

Derek will wake himself up by farting and that makes me want to seriously puke. WHO craps themselves in their own damn sleep :?: :?: Oh wait, my boyfriend does!

 Uh, my son said he heard me the other night while I was sleeping! I'm telling you it is really bad and I never had this problem before (well, or course, we all do once in awhile). Now maybe I've figured out why some mornings when I wake up my dog has jumped off the bed and is sleeping on the floor!

LMAO! This is the best! thread! ever!

I wonder if that's why when you've reached the one-year "quit" anniversary, these people here welcome you to the "old farts club?"
